Description:
Flies are often metallic in appearance, with feathery hairs on the terminal antennal segments of males. Adult flies have sponge-like mouthparts, while maggots have hook-like mouthparts.
Habits:
Common house flies are attracted to decaying organic filth, such as feces and rotting flesh, while fruit flies seek sugary substances and most commonly feed on overripe fruit, spilled soft drinks and alcohol.
